THE CAREER RESET
Use the right kind of help

Career Reset is not the answer to every transition problem.

A self-guided career-reasoning method can be useful when you need structure. Other needs deserve other kinds of support.

If the main problem in front of you is not career reasoning, using the right specialist, community or support route is more important than completing Career Reset.

Job search or recruitment

If your priority is finding open roles, recruiter access or current hiring intelligence, a job-search platform is more appropriate than Career Reset.

Devex ↗ provides global-development jobs, career information and recruiter-facing services.

Peer-supported job search

If you want a small peer group, accountability and a structured job-search process rather than a self-guided method, consider a dedicated peer-search community.

Never Search Alone ↗ offers free, volunteer-supported Job Search Councils and job-search tools.

International-development transition resources

If your transition is specifically within international development, sector-specific resources may be useful alongside Career Reset.

Pivot with Purpose Resource Center ↗ curates job boards, organizations and transition resources for development professionals.

Returning after a career break

If your main situation is returning to work after an extended career break, a specialist re-entry resource may be a better fit.

iRelaunch Resources ↗ focuses on career re-entry, return-to-work programmes and relauncher resources.

Individual career coaching

If you want ongoing one-to-one challenge, accountability or tailored career coaching, work with a qualified coach whose approach, fees and boundaries are clear. Career Reset does not provide individualized coaching.

Mental-health or clinical support

If distress, sleep, anxiety, depression, trauma or crisis is the primary issue, contact an appropriate licensed health professional or local emergency/crisis service. Career Reset is not clinical care.

Legal or immigration questions

If your transition affects employment rights, residency, visas, permits, benefits or contractual obligations, use a qualified lawyer, trade union/employee representative or official public authority for your jurisdiction.

Financial planning

If your immediate problem is cash flow, debt, pension, tax or household financial planning, use a qualified financial or tax professional and the relevant official authorities.

Evaluation and professional communities

If what you need is peers, professional-development resources or sector opportunities in evaluation, professional associations may be more useful than another framework.

European Evaluation Society ↗ and IDEAS ↗ maintain evaluation-community resources, events and professional information.

These are independent organizations and services. Their inclusion here is for participant usefulness and does not imply affiliation, sponsorship, endorsement or a reciprocal commercial relationship.

When Career Reset may still help

Career Reset is designed for the part of a transition where you need to understand what changed, stabilize the immediate situation, recover portable value, define criteria for what fits, test plausible futures and build a practical next-step plan.

You can use it alongside other support. You do not need to choose one source of help for everything.

Use Career Reset only where the problem is one the method is designed to support.
